1.06.2006 - The Last Woman on Earth Premiere
So far good news comes in sets of twos this year...
Not to trump the award news from yesterday but we have confirmation that The Last Woman on Earth will premiere at Cinequest in San Jose this March! We will have exact times when the schedule goes up in early February.
Huge thanks go out to everyone who worked on the film, gave money for the production or donated their time and resources in any way.
1.05.2006 - Awarded in the New Year
Welcome to 2006. We hope everyone had a good holiday and are looking forward to the New Year.
The biggest news of the year is a festival award for The Chick Magnet! It was voted best Sci-Fi short (under 20 minutes) by the Conestoga International Film Festival. We want to thank the festival and audiences of Conestoga, we are thrilled that you really enjoyed our film.
9.26.2005 - WE'RE BACK, BABY!!!
Oy, it was a stressful weekend but it's all over now.
I know that not being able to come and see the Chick Magnet for 4 whole days was a burden that you cannot be rightfully asked to bare and we will never ask you to do it again. 'It' of course referring to the waiting period that it took to get the site back online, not the physical act of love. You should do that as your lifestyle dictates necessary.
Now that we're in our new home, we will be finishing up the long delayed short The Last Woman on Earth. If for no other reason then to get Chris Garcia to stop complaining. Just kidding. It'll be great, in fact it will be the best short film about a half naked woman ever on this website, so help me g-d, or may I be crushed from above and my bones made in to soup.
Anyway... check back soon. Like the end of the month.
No... next month. Jeeze, I'm only human.
9.21.2005 - Curse you SBC!
Due to gross mismanagement...
SBC screwed the pooch on the move date for the DSL and will now install it a week later then we had originally hoped causing us to have the system down for 4 days, from Friday the 23rd to Monday the 26th. Sorry about the outage, we did our best to avoid it but SBC hates you and does not want people to come to the site. We will be back up on the 26th so please come back Monay and visit us again!
9.13.2005 - Redfoot Productions is moving!
That's right, we are moving to the belly of the beast...
On September 23rd we will be moving the office and servers for Redfoot Productions to our new home in Los Angeles. Web site service will be disabled for about 12 hours during the move, we apologize in advance for any feelings of gross negligence that this causes you. Be sure that we should be up again on the 23rd late in the evening.
8.9.2005 - Audience Awards and Best of Screening Info...
Two things about the 48 Hour Film, 'Saving Pockets'...
Well... we didn't win the audience award for our showing at the Roxie... I think it was a payola scam anyway. But we still have hope for the jury awards. Hopefully we are still in the running and hopefully we will still get some of the jury's attention... if anyone from the jury is reading this, I will set you up with coke and hookers for life in exchange for the Best Of City award. And by "for life" I mean... maybe once... as funds allow... but you'll probably have to settle for a sandwich and a hug.
Second thing is the Best Of Screening for San Francisco. It will be August 18th at the "Walk In Movies". The show will start at sunset (I'm not sure when that is but around 7PM to 8PM would be my guess). It is located at Rhode Island and 18th (in the Potrero Hill section of San Francisco). Please come out. Even if we are not one of the Best Of, there are 3 other films I think will be there that you can enjoy. For more info about the screening, check out the "Walk In Movies" website.
7.27.2005 - Saving Pockets...
The 48 Hour Film Project is over, we have our film, "Saving Pockets" and it's going to screen tonight at the Roxie Cinema in San Francisco!
It was hard but it was worth it. After school ended I forgot what it's like to produce a project so fast. To work without storyboards or detailed shot lists, to wing it and just feel the project. It was a huge rush. And then you crash because you've been up for 40 hours and have to find that last reserve to get you to the end. Wow. It really was something great.
Please join us at the Roxie Cinema tonight if you can, there are audience awards and we'd like to have friendly faces there to help stuff the ballot box!
7.12.2005 - You're out! Well, maybe not...
Okay, now we are in the 48 Hour Film Project.
It seems that some people did not have the stamina to go without sleep for two days and bowed out so we have been included. Now with our dignity in jeopardy, we will lie, cheat and steal with the rest of the Short Timers to try and get a film crew together over the next two weeks to compete on the weekend of the 22nd. Oy.
I'll update this section with the stuff we do but we have an official website that will be used for the film we make, nothing there now but in two weeks or so... oh lordy, there'll be something then! Check it out at www.theshorttimers.com
6.30.2005 - The biting of the nails...
Well, the dark horse project is coming down to the wire and I'm really interested in seeing if we get it.
The drawing for the 48 Hour Film Project, San Francisco division, takes place this Friday, July 1st. There is an amazing amount of talent coming together to work on it, of which Redfoot is only a contributor, but even then... if we don't get in, it will be a little sad.
Keep yer fingers crossed for us. We are all very excited about the prospect of working on this project.
6.1.2005 - Summertime!
It's official! The witches have spoken, the equinox has occurred and we are officially in summer!
And with that, there are a few small announcements. The first is to congratulate Mr. Chris Garcia, Chick Magnet producer. This past weekend Chris was the Toastmaster at Bay-Con, a Sci-Fi convention. I'm not sure what his official duties were but I'm sure that they were bready and benevolent. The second, The Chick Magnet played at the Bay-Con D(r)ive In, a night where they projected short films on the wall of the hotel and forced everyone in earshot to deal with our film. Pretty cool!
I'm beginning to think Chris' toast powers may have been used up getting that screening but you'll have to ask him.
5.18.2005 - The big dilemma...
Do you go to a friend's softball game and watch them lose another game in an unending string of spectacular losses... or... go see Star Wars? Yeah, f*** 'em. I didn't like those guys anyway. ;)
Well there's a lot of buzz going on as the dog days of summer approach, this is normally the busy time for shooting as you have longer hours with the sun and it's warm... while not a necessity, it's just nice. We'll be kicking off two definite projects and a possible 3rd dark horse project in the coming weeks. One project will be a live action short, like some of the others... but better! So much better!!
The second is already underway but will take a bit more time, our first animated project. But I know you're saying, "animation is the devil's entertainment", and you're right but what the heck, at least we don't have to feed a crew. ;) A little bonus is the screenshot below from one of the characters for the animated film. We'll keep showing more as more is built, tested and animated.
So that's about it for the moment. More to come soon and... may the Force be with you. :P
4.27.2005 - I'm awake! I'm awake!!
Whew, has it been a month?
I guess it's been a few weeks since I made an entry but that is not because I don't love you all. Really. I think we all just needed the sleep after the big festival push of last month. At least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
Over the last two weeks, Justin Torres shot his new short called According to Amy, a bit of a long form short that should come in at about a half hour run time. It's about the way one young woman deals with a breakup and it features a young Steve Sprinkles as the horrible, HORRIBLE, boyfriend that puts the young heroine though her trials. Let Shatner-esque bad acting commence!
After that there has been a lot of writing and re-grouping, trying to figure out what projects will be coming up next. One fun project is the 48 Hour Film Project, we are going to compete like the filthy dogs we are against other Bay Area teams to make the greatest film ever seen! In 48 hours. Heck, as long as it's watch able, it's okay with me. :)
3.25.2005 - More Cinequest wrapup and Seattle information!
Even though the festival is over, the smell lingers on.
Boris Zubov, the editor of The Search for the Captain, the feature we played with during Cinequest put up a page on his website about the protest and brew-ha-ha around the Captain, yes the same protest we hijacked for our own media whoring needs. You can check out his take on the festival and some pictures of us protesting the real protest and ourselves at his site www.borisdarling.com.
Next item... Chris Garcia, our wild and wooly producer is off to the NorWestCon in Seattle, Washington this weekend to help promote the crap out of the Chick Magnet which is playing this Sunday. If you are a Starbucks or Microsoft employee, go check it out! With any luck, Chris' dream will be realized, and we will end up with a Hugo Award nomination next year.
Just think about it... with that nomination, we can end up on the Star Trek convention circuit for the rest of our lives! And that is one gravy train I want a ticket to ride! Mmmmm... green skinned women...
3.14.2005 - It's over! It's all over!!
Well, Cinequest, the home of the World Premier of the Chick Magnet has come to a close. The films are gone... the filmmakers are gone... the PARTIES are gone... and I have returned to my home to scrub the grout in the bathroom. So anti-climatic.
We all had a great time at the festival. We met and schoozed to the best of our ability with other great filmmakers, saw some amazing films, if you get a chance to see Villa Paranoia, Uno or The Works, run right out and watch them. Don't even stop to read the rest of this drivel. They are some truly amazing examples of great independent film making.
So to everyone that came to the festival and supported our film, I thank you, the production team thanks you and most important, you made the baby Jesus smile. ;)
3.8.2005 - OoOoOoOoOoO... CLEAR!!
Our two screenings are over! Saturday, our premiere, was a blast. People came, we protested. No, really. Check out this article on the Mercury News website for a full explanation.
The screening went really well, our lil' film played and the people laughed... oh, how they laughed! It felt great to see the film so well received. Almost as bad as it felt the second night when we sucked the air out of the room.
To explain a little bit, the feature we are playing with is a political and emotional issue for a lot of people in San Jose and the crowd the second night came to debate and take in a serious film and our silly little comedy was not what they were in the mood for.
Oh, well, we showed them by keying all their cars. ;)
3.3.2005 - Fear and Loathing at Cinequest
Jason Schachat reporting live from Cinequest here to show everybody an example of what happens when your film isn't well received.
If you'll notice, Steve is pictured just slightly above with a great example of our marketing campaign (flyers, flyer, FLYERS!) to promote the Chick Magnet-- THROWN ON THE FLOOR. Yes, the love only goes so far, but we keep on trucking... Incidentally, the film hasn't actually shown, but we're still more than ready to whine about what under appreciated geniuses we all are.
VIVA!
2.10.2005 - The Chick Magnet Premiere Tickets Available Online!
